My mom (Yoli) is a self taught florist. I grew up watching her tie the perfect bow, decorate our home for every holiday, and make beautiful floral arrangements. I was so happy when she agreed to share a few tips for the blog. I forgot to pick up the fern she asked for before shooting this but in true Super Mom fashion, she made it work!
Here are 5 steps to creating a simple floral arrangement:
Pick Up Your Flowers
First, you want to pick up a dozen roses from you local flower shop or grocery store. My mom recommends Publix, Trader Joe's, and Whole Foods.
Cut The Stems
Cut each stem at an angle with a sharp knife. Be careful as you will be cutting the stems toward you.
A Note from Yoli : Cut each stem at an angle to ensure the flowers receive the right amount of water. My mom (Yoli) recommends using a knife versus scissors to ensure you get a clean cut.
Select Your Vase
Here is where you can get creative. You can pick up a vase from a craft store, thrift shop, or even re-purpose a pretty bottle you have at home.
Add water to your vase before inserting flowers.
Yoli Tip: Add crushed aspirin to water before adding flowers. It will help your flowers stay fresh longer. Also, be sure to change the vase water every few days.
Bring Out Your Inner Florist
Continue to add your flowers until you are pleased with your arrangement.
There you have it! A simple + beautiful arrangement.
Yoli tip: Add fern or baby's breath to add a pop to your arrangement.
